The new website of the University of Bern is live: clearer, more attractive and adapted to various end devices

From 22 October 2015 the new University of Bern website is going online in phases. This Thursday the portal and faculty pages will be live; from next week the institute pages will gradually be activated.

The new University of Bern website is optimised for common end devices nowadays such as smartphones, tablets and desktops: the information layout adapts to the size of the display being used.

The new website consists on the one hand of a portal with news and general information about the university and on the other has an overview page to the faculties, institutes and centres. Thanks to the new internal portal there is a clear separation between external and internal target groups and content too.

One important objective of the new website is to avoid redundancies: information that belongs together is pooled and now provided centrally in one place – for example the courses.

Another important aspect is the user friendliness which among other things shows that end users have easier access to information through clear navigation.

The website meets the requirements of accessibility. The font on the new website is larger and is easier to read for people with vision impairment. Visually impaired people have access to the university websites by being able to also read information using a screen reader programme.
